FIGHTING FOR A RETAIL SALES TAX EXEMPTION FOR CAR WASHES
During 2018, the PSCWA is advocating on behalf of all car washes in Washington State for an exemption from state retail sales tax. On this page, we offer you the tools to participate in and support this effort. Since the 2017 legislative session, PSCWA members and our lobbyist, David Ducharme, have met with many legislators, and most are supportive of our bill. With your help, we have a great chance of achieving passage during 2018.
Tools you’ll need:
Bill information – HB 1856 – Proposal for Sales Tax Exemption for Commercial Car Wash Facilities in Washington State
Fiscal note associated with this bill – The Department of Revenue has issued a fiscal note to HB 1856.
White paper – A one-page description of the importance of this bill. Use as a handout and/or for talking points regarding our bill.
Talking points – Use these for meetings with legislators
Stormwater article from The Seattle Times – This article ties fish mortality, stormwater pollution, and cars together.
List of legislators – Use this list to identify those that serve your district, and contact them. Note: Sort the list by district by clicking at the top of that column.
Support for your meetings with legislators – If you arrange a meeting with your legislator(s), contact the PSCWA office. Our lobbyist, David Ducharme, will make an effort to join you for your meeting, and the results of your meeting will be logged by our Executive Director, Elly Snow.
